Goryeo, a nation which ruled from 918 until 1392 CE in the year 1392 CE, introduced to the world the Hangul Alphabet based on the patterns created by the mouth while pronouncing. This greatly improved communication and led to a rise in the writing of Buddhist text. Woodblock printing and movable metal type were also refined. The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to collaborate to expand their territories. In the final, Silla, with significant Chinese aid, conquered all other states and united the peninsula in 935 CE.

As Korea enters the post-crisis era, its development paradigm appears to be changing. People who are shocked by the costs of the old systems advocate a comprehensive program of liberalization of labor, capital and markets for products. On the other hand the supporters of the old system try to protect it by promoting nationalist sentiments, as well as by inflating fears about potential job loss.

Analysts and academics are divided on the extent to which Korea's evolution is being driven by these two trends. This article examines developments to date by analyzing five phases of Korea's political evolution that include democratic illiberalism (1945-60) democratic authoritarianism (1961-72) authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-87), democratic paternalism (1987-2001), and democratic participation (2002 to the present). Creationism in Korea

In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have made progress in promoting their beliefs to this segment. A 2009 survey revealed that nearly three-quarters of respondents did not believe in the theory of evolution. Of those who voted, 41% stated that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support the theory 39% believed it was contrary to their religious beliefs. 17 percent said they didn't comprehend it. This level of doubt is similar to that of the United States, where a similar number of people do not accept that humans evolved from less advanced forms of life.

In the past of the anti-evolution movement in Korea was focused on educating college students and in bringing them to Christ. A significant rise in interest in creation science began in the year 1980, following a four-day seminar held during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul which featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the main speakers. This event attracted a large number of pastors, professors, church leaders and scientists.

KACR started publishing a newsletter titled CREATION. In CREATION, the organization presented its own work and published articles about scientific evidence supporting creationism. It also translated a number of slides and film strips from ICR and some books on the subject that were already in print outside of Korea. KACR members gave lectures at universities and churches throughout the country.

A KACR success was observed at KAIST University in Seoul. There, there were enough students interested in creationism that they raised enough money and support to put up a small museum on campus with creationist fossil models and other exhibits.

In addition to its work, KACR has published a bimonthly magazine called CREATION. The magazine covers subjects that pertain to the science of creation. It also hosted a series of lectures by ICR staff. It has also organized a network of local branches that hold seminars and provide talks to schoolchildren and community groups.

Changes in South Korea

In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized style of life. The traditional Korean dress, the hanbok, was replaced by miniskirts, as well as other fashion elements from abroad. The traditional Korean music was also replaced by rock and roll and jazz. In this time, the famous samulnori or the masked dance-dramas were very popular. These dramatic pieces were performed to the accompaniment of shaman drums and other musical instruments.

Wang Geon, a powerful local leader who defeated Gungye in 935, and then united Goryeo, Baekje, and Silla and later joined Baekje into Goryeo and acted as a peaceful successor. Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened the central government system. This marked the end of the Three Kingdoms Period. From that point on the Korean peninsula was controlled by the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms period, Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla gradually developed into powerful states in Manchuria and on the peninsula.
